Child Welfare
The Welfare Officer responsibilities include:
assisting the club in implementing ‘Wavepower’ – Swim England’s child safeguarding policy and procedures;
providing the first point of contact for club staff, volunteers, young people, and parents for any issues concerning child welfare, poor practice or potential or alleged abuse;
ensuring that all incidents are reported correctly and referred, in accordance with Wavepower;
to ensure that all relevant club members, volunteers and staff have an up to date DBS enhanced disclosure and the opportunity to access appropriate child safeguarding training; and
to ensure that codes of conduct are in place for club staff, volunteers, coaches, competitors and parents.
'The main purpose of my role is to assist with the safeguarding and protecting of children and young people in the club.
I'm here to ensure all persons working with children and young people at the club are fully aware of what is required of them within the protocols of the policy. To achieve this I liaise closely with club officials, parents, children and young people to ensure that the agreed procedures for the prevention of risk is followed and advise the club on matters of policy relating to child safeguarding.
If required I may also consult with appropriate child safeguarding professionals, for example the Swim England safeguarding team, and follow the advice given.'
