We love our Club. 'The Kingfishers'

What it the best thing about Armthorpe Swimming Club?

Although all the coaches are amazing at making sure we swim to the best of our abilities I would say the best thing about Armthorpe Swimming Club is that we are like a big family. Over the last 8 years I have been there I have developed good relationships with coaches, team mates and parents, making friends I know will last a lifetime. Everyone gets along well and are always willing to help each other out giving that huge community feel that makes you feel welcome no matter at what stage you are joining us.

What do you love about swimming?

The thing I love most about swimming especially here is that the coaches always come prepared with challenging and new sets every session which keeps training exciting and motivates us as swimmers, as hard as they can be sometimes. It keeps us healthy as well as giving you opportunities to compete at the various competitions we go to, both team and individual. It is also a different and interesting sport compared to your typical footballers and dancers etc making taking up swimming as your hobby a little bit more unique.

What’s your greatest achievement?

My greatest achievement is probably competing at the Yorkshire championships. Although I didn’t enjoy it at the time, I’m happy that I was able to qualify and had the opportunity to compete.

I’ve swam with a number of clubs over the (many) years and can say without reservation that as well as great coaching, Armthorpe is the friendliest and most welcoming club I’ve ever experienced.

What’s the best thing about ASC?

You make lots of friends and get to train and race with them; and the coaches are really friendly and nice.

What do you love about swimming?

It’s fun and it keeps you fit. There is a good variety of strokes that you learn. I like that everyone has a stroke that they are best at and they get to lead the lane for that stroke.

What do you love about life saving?

It’s relaxing and great fun - you make lots of friends, but you learn important skills at the same time, which could save a life. I like the games we play too.

What is your greatest achievement so far?

Getting a Gold and two Silvers at the Leeds Gala; getting five PBs in the Schofield’s Gala and winning the breaststroke event. I’m proud of becoming a Rookie Lifeguard in life saving.

Who is your swimming hero and why?

Nicola, one of my coaches -  because she is kind and patient. Seth - one of the older swimmers, because he always cheers us on when we are racing.

The best thing about Armthorpe swimming club is that we’re like a big family and I have formed so many friendships, the coaches are also really nice and help you improve to reach your personal swimming goals.

I love swimming because the coaches prepare challenging sets to push our swimming ability and motivate us to keep training hard. Swimming also brings many great health benefits at the same time as having fun doing something you love ! My greatest achievement is definitely swimming the length of lake Windermere with my three good friends who I met through the club! It was a big challenge and required many training sessions to build up our stamina but it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I’m so great full for all of my coaches who helped me improve to enable me to accomplish anything I want to do and I’m so great full for my family for supporting me and giving me so many amazing opportunities with swimming.
