The final day of the final weekend of the Yorkshire Championships saw many of our swimmers stepping up and bringing home medals as part of DARTES relays. There are some videos on the DARTES website. A big mention has to go out to the boys 11/12 years free and medley relays - bringing home sliver and gold respectively with 3 out of the 4 swimmers being Armthorpe boys. I'd also like to say a huge 'well done' to those non-DARTES swimmers who managed to not only make the qualifying times for Yorkshires, but go there and make finals or even come home with medals!! As a club we ammassed 33 medals over the 3 weekends of swimming - 12 Gold, 15 Silver and 6 Bronze. To do this off the back of just 3 training sessions a week is a huge testiment to your race skills and natual ability. My question to you then is do you want more?! NER's? Nationals? If you do then talk to Dave at training!!

There were plenty of other fast swims from our swimmers too, far too many to mention, but have a scroll through the full results above! Splits from the relays on Sunday 20th will be posted on the notice board at Armthorpe on Wednesday.

Unfortunately there needs to be a special mention for those swimmers who should have been, but were not selected for the relays. After a similar issue at the 2010 gala we were promissed that the fastest swimmers from all of Doncaster would make up the DARTES 'A' relays. This did not happen, again. I can assure you that we have and will continue to bring this matter up with the people who select the team to see how/why errors are being made and I promise that in 2012 I will be more proactive in supplying DARTES with a list of times and swimmers so they can not overlook anyone.

Well done everyone!

Gala report, by Ellie Pollard

Having been cursed with the short term memory span of a goldfish I immediately regretted offering support with the commentary on our Yorkshire highlights.

Not one to give up easily I decided to enlist support from a selection of Armthorpe swimmers who experienced the galas first hand and were able to refresh my memory. Apologies to those I’ve missed.

Here’s just a flavour of some of the highs and lows.

Toni Briggs

After working hard in the breaststroke heat but fearing she’d missed out Toni got showered and changed only to be dragged back poolside by a rather excited Becky who’d discovered she’d made the final. Toni finished 7th in the 50m breaststroke.

Jamie Clarke

Jamie works so hard and it was a real pleasure to see him get his reward with a silver in 50 and 200 back and a Gold in 100 back. Persistence really does payout.

Caitlin Dixon

Speaking of persistence Caitlin also likes a good battle and after collecting a selection of Silvers at Gala 1 she came out fighting at gala 2 adding two golds and a National time to her collection of Silvers. Caitlin’s highlight though like many of the swimmers was the teams. The girls missed out on the Medley but brought home shiny silvers on the Free. Well done girls!

Reece Fielding

After a great breaststroke final where he came 4th Reece joined the 11/12 Boys team to help them to Gold and Silver in the teams.

Jarvis Parkinson

Spoilt for choice with Jarvis for highlights. He got quite a collection of medals over the 3 weekends. The highlights have to be the phenomenal team swims and this year’s success in breaststroke. Not normally regarded as his strength until recently but that’s all changed now with a gold and two bronzes to add to the collection!

Alex Pollard

Alex was determined not to let his team down in the Yorkshire Teams. After just turning 12 last week he didn’t want to spoil anyone’s chance of a medal. His highlight was swimming a fabulous personal best in the medley final to help his team win gold.

Heidi Smith

Heidi battled in 50 Free to bring home a hard earned silver to go with her Team Silver in freestyle.

Chantelle Waugh

After the dissappointment of two disqualifications at Gala 1 what a delight when those medals came. Some upsetting lows for someone so young but Chantelle showed us all how to bounce back and come out fighting.

Kelsey Wilson

She had much to prove after missing out on a spot in the teams again this year and as usual Kelsey delivered with a well fought bronze in the 50m Breaststroke with a time of 39.26 and a cracking 50 Free of 31.15, 2nd only amongst the Dartes swimmers to Natasha.

Torin Wilson

The youngest of the big boys team Torin had much to live up to. He too did not want to let anyone down and he did not disappoint. Four fabulous freestyle swims helped Torin and his team to Gold and Silver. Well done lads!
