Thanks to Wayne Alton for the following report.
Team B.A.C.K. (Brown, Alton, Christmas & Keeling)
We have just competed in our first swimming gala for many years and it was a great experience. It took place at ponds forge on December 11th.
Our first event was 100m Medley we were all very, very nervous and scared to death of being DQd for false starts but that didn’t happen. We got a 4th place 1:06.23 not bad for some old guys from Armthorpe. Then it was my race 50 freestyle I was scared for this event as it was an individual again the start was key and my preparation was a long winded affair adjusting my goggles making sure there could be no mishaps and yes you guessed it was an awesome start apart from swimming the whole 50m goggles on my chin! Not happy, when I finished feeling disappointed, I got out high fived the rest of Team B.A.C.K. then asked Gavin what time I got 34:42 not bad, what was the winning time? Gavin looked Blank at me and said 34:42 I had won my heat! (“Result”) Gavin and Paul were up next Gavin swum in the 100m Breast and Paul did the 100m IM Gavin got a fifth in his age group (1:26.19), Paul claimed a Bronze in his age group (1:28.7). Gavin and Paul had decided to swim the 100m Freestyle Paul was still recovering from his 100m IM, but was up for the challenge this was a real good effort from both of them Gavin came in 10 in his age group with 1:14.11 and Paul was 5th in his age group with 1:13.41and they were in the same heat so it was very close. Finally it was the 100m Freestyle team we all had our Jelly Babies and Fig rolls to give us plenty of energy and were psyching each other up the first leg was swam by Paul handing over to Wayne (Goggles stayed on) then Gavin, bringing up the rear was Russ we came in on a very respectable 56.90 which gave us a silver we were like kids it was A-maze-in!!! Whilst waiting for our heats we kept ourselves busy designing new cap Logo’s and even a slogan.
“We might be old but we’re going for Gold”
A fun time was had by all Oh and it looked like the fig rolls worked.
