Thanks to Girls' Team Captain Emma Wright for the below report.

Swim of the Meet

Something new for 2012 League galas, The Head Coach is going to pick a "Swim of the Meet" to give a little recognition to any special achievements during galas.

The first award is actually going to be shared between 2 swimmers.

Tom Bunkle for his unbelievable 5 second PB in the 100m free. Tom was injured for a good part of last season but has come back to training with the same great attitude he had before. I'm so happy for him that the hard work is really paying off. Sure there's more to come from Tom!

Simon Kliment for not only swimming in his first league gala, but for doing an event he was not very confident in (100m Breaststroke) and doing it brilliantly. Then backing it up with a great 2nd place finish in the 50 fly!

Well done to both of you.

January the 29th 2012. The first team gala back after the New Year, and it wasn’t looking good. Half the team were missing and team sheets were a mess trying to sort out who was swimming what. Starting on time (for a change) the gala began, involving Adwick, Wakefield, Askern spa and us. We didn’t get off to the greatest of starts getting pipped in most of the medley swims. However, team moral was not lost after all it was only early days! The individuals began! As the gala got fully underway it became apparent that we were beginning to fight back. Swimmers put in some gritty swims in particular Caitlin Dixon who swam 100m fly then got out had one race to catch her breath before swimming 100m free in a 1.04. The younger swimmers really pulled it out the bag in the individuals especially Simon Kliment who swam for the very first time in a competitive gala and pulling out some brilliant performances in the 50m fly and 100m breaststroke. It’s fair to say the individual swims today were a great reflection of the hard work and effort everyone has been putting into the club! Every time results were put up Armthorpe were either trailing behind Adwick 6 points or 4 or even a painfully annoying 2! Nearing the end however, it became clear that we could infact win the gala, mainly because Alison Fielding came running up to the swimmers and kindly offered to personally kiss us all if we won as we were only 2 points behind!

So down to the final 3 team swims... The 15 year old girl’s team of Toni, Caitlin, Heidi and Georgia blasted their way to first place. The boys David, Shaun, Jack and Josh stormed through to first place also. We realised that we could actually win this gala. The last team consisting of Heidi, Caitlin, Emily and myself were the last to swim. Finishing in 2nd behind Adwick we were anxious to find out the result! Amazingly Armthorpe pulled it out the bag winning by 1 point! A great start to the New Year, keep up the good work guys!
