MET'S roundup - PB's galore!
Post date: 21-Oct-2013 22:02:12
Over 2 Sundays afternoons in October, we took a group of kids to the MET's Individual Championships at Adwick Leisure Centre.
There were too many outstanding performances to put all of them in this report, but one of the highlights was the duel between Simon Kliment and Harvey Willamson in the 12yr boys age group. They constantly pushed each other in every event, but Simon eventually pipped Harvey to the Top Boy award by swimming a 1.28.59 for his 100 breaststroke (a 15 second PB). Well done Simon! Another highlight was the dominance of the girls 11yr age group by Gill Clarke. Not only did she win every event, but she did it whilst executing great turns and underwaters, which are a product of her dedication and hard work at DARTES - congratulations Gill!
A special mention must go out to those who broke records or came away with the Top Girl/Boy awards from their respective age groups
Top girl Top boy Record breakers
Lauren Christmas - 10yrs Simon Kliment - 12yrs Ben Wright - boys 9yr 50 free (34.12 shared
Gill Clarke - 11yrs Alex Pollard - 14yrs with Will Gatus of Adwick)
Caitlin Dixon - 16-24yrs Alex Pollard - boys 14yr 100 back (1.03.32)

It was great to see a lot of the 9yr old members taking part in the Championships. It is invaluable racing experience for them, and they compete with such enthusiasm, it was a pleasure to have them poolside. I wish though I had a £1 for every time they asked if it was their turn to race again yet - I would be a very rich person now! I hope they all continue to work hard in training, so they keep improving at their current rate.
Overall it was a successful meet, but its not just the swimmers that contribute to the result. I would like to thank Helena, Chris, Pete and Jenna for helping out poolside with warm up, getting kids to the races on time, and generally encouraging the kids before and after their races. Our club came 2nd with 420.5 points, and considering we had significantly less swimmers than Adwick (who came 1st), this was a great result, AND of the 190 races completed over the 2 weekends, we had a 76% PB rate which is fantastic. I'm a very proud Team Manager right now - awesome swimming everyone!
See you all at the Schofields in November, Laura
